Well in Blade it is a virus. I forget exactly why they need to drink blood but I’m sure you could find out on the wikipedia article.

Buffy Vampires get their powers from the demon who posses them and they need to drink blood because it is the life force of other beings and since they are dead they can’t create their own. They get dusted in sunlight because light has always been the opposition of evil represented by darkness.

The vampires from a movie whose name I can’t remember staring Adrian Paul vampires were the next stage in human evolution. They didn’t die from sunlight but they were more sensitive to it a condition that exists today, they just wore sunglass when they were out during the day. They had massive regenerative abilities and increased muscular density which gave them incredible strength. They didn’t drink human blood.

Vampirella vampires are an alien species. What would be water on our planet is basically blood on theirs. All their abilities are from them being aliens. They are also not bothered by sunlight.

Vampires from Dracula 2000 were sired by Judas. He cursed them like he was cursed. That is also why they didn’t like religious symbols and sliver ( the 30 pieces of silver Judas betrayed Jesus for).

As far as just generic explanations for vampire characteristics:

Their is a condition that makes people very sensitive to sunlight but they wouldn’t burst into flames from sun exposure.

Their is also a condition called double muscle that gives people crazy muscle mass with virtually no effort. They are incredibly strong.

Some people are just crazy and might want to kill people and drink their blood.

Their are a lot of different experiments going on to increase a persons ability to heal. In Australia they did something to mice and now they can regenerate damage to their organs, eyes, heart, regrow limbs, pretty much anything as long as you don’t kill them or damage their brain.

Scientifically, there is not even a single proof that vampires do exist. However, there is a medical condition called "Porphyria’s Disease", which exist since a very long time ago in the society. This disease shows symptomps that are similar (or misunderstood by the society) like vampire – bare teeth, bloody mouth, allergic to sunlight. It’s not that when they get the disease they’ll become vampires, but it makes their skin and eyes very sensitive to sunlight, thus they have to avoid it. The gums would retract, making it look slike their teeth are showing. No, they don’t drink blood, it’s the lesions of the gum that’s bleeding. The old society doesn’t exactly understand what is happening, and with the folks’ beliefs of ghosts, witchcrafts etc, the conditions were mostly misunderstood, thus voila, the vampires were created. To know more, you can read about the disease and even a poem "Porphyria’s Lover".

Vampires have to drink blood to stay alive:

False, well, sort of. There are many kinds of vampyric humans, such as sanguians (blood drinkers), psychic (energy feeders), and hybrids (a mix of the two).

Vampires explode, catch on fire once sunlight hits them:

False, I blame hollywood for this one. True, vampires are sensitive to sun light, but simply applying suntan lotion it ill prevent the horrible rashes and third degree burns vamps are subjected to for walking in the daylight.

And by the way, the same goes for the whole garlic myth, I’m a vamp and love garlic, it’s just that we are sensitive to certain scents and taste, garlics strength is why I actually perfer it.

Vampies have super strength: I’m a complete weakling, just like anytoehr human, were all diferent, it just depends on the person your talking to. In vampires, weres, fae, and normal humans, no rece is the same, were all individuals.

Vampires can live for almost one thousand years:

Thats a hard question to answer, some can live 10 years longer than they should, but it’s kind of the same with humans, but there are though who claim to live for a few hundred years. To go about this problem will an old asian proverb. "Those who know do notm speak, those who speak do not know."

    Make sense?

In ancient civilizations, with no technology, peple thought that blood = life. Because when you lose a lot of blood, you die, right? So vampires are pretty much life suckers of a long time ago… They died so they feast on the life (blood) of others to survive. And once you’re dead, you can’t die again, right? Hence they live forever.

And the rest of that stuff doesn’t go by the legend… That was designed by Hollywood…
