Yeah I agree that feeding on animals has been exhausted. I think it’d be kind of interesting if maybe the vampires get their nutritions from junk food and candy.
They raid a blood bank? They create a chemically engineered substitute for blood? They go to outer space and seek other life-forms to feed on? Hahaha…!
…My point is that you’re left with little choice. They need blood, where else can they get it? Unless you make vampires that can live without drinking blood–but then you can’t call them vampires anymore…
Other vampires, maybe… a "renegade vampire" type of thing.
Ridding the bad name of vampires… in a vampire sort of way. It would make for good hypocritical criticisms of the renegade, in the "vampire community", which you can create and describe in detail.
Then, the renegade can feed on "the law" after getting the secretive vampire community into a scare… they might go to the law. Or, perhaps, contact people who are more respectable in the vampire community… which would fit well with the concept of vampires’ unusual life span.
(It could be set up a bit like a vampire mafia, or something… which would work well with the idea of a renegade; getting revenge on a lowly group of vampire thugs who jumped the character and turned the character into a vampire. Which might force the renegade to defend against future attacks, when the others learn of the incident.)
I always thought it would be interesting if vampires were the descendants of aliens from a distant planet. Back on their home world, and during the early days of their existence, they consumed a blood juice concocted from a plant available only on their planet — or so it was thought (hint-hint).
When they arrived on Earth, they found no such plant, and so were reduced to feeding on humans. What if such a plant did exist however? And a few vampires have just discovered it? What kind of war might develop between those who feed on the blood plants and those who feed on…
